Ghana falls to Mexico in a pre World Cup friendly

The Black Stars of Ghana came second best to Mexico in their Pre World Cup friendly in Puebla, Mexico.

Goals from Brian Gutierrez and Guillermo Martinez were enough to guarantee victory for the Mexicans as they beat Ghana by 2 goals to zero.

Newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz missed the game as a result of some personal reasons so assistant coach, Desmond Offei was tasked to lead the Stars.

Benjamin Asare; Jan Kwasi Gyamerah, Nathaniel Adjei, Oscar Oppong, Terry Yegbe; Emmanuel Agyei, Majeed Ashimeru (C), Ibrahim Osman, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi; Daniel Agyei, Felix Afena-Gyan were the men Desmond Offei trusted to start the game for Ghana.

A howler in the third minute by Benjamin Asare gave the Mexicans an early lead with the Stars chasing for an equaliser through out the first half of the game.

Two stunning saves from Benjamin Asare kept Ghana in the game only for Guillermo Martinez to give the Mexicans their second goal of the game as the defence of the Black Stars were caught ball watching.

Prince Amoako, Razak Simpson, Jerry Afriyie, Solomon Agbesi, Salim Adams, Aziz Issah, Joseph Opoku, David Oduro, Ebenezer Adade, and Ebenezer Abban were all given the chance to impress in the second half.

Ghana has now lost five games in the row, conceding 11 goals and scoring just 2.

Ghana’s next friendlies will be in June against Wales and Jamaica before the start of the World Cup on June 11th.
