The 2026 World Cup is just a stone throw away and the call for Andre Ayew to make the Black Stars squad for the tournament keeps getting intensified as the day goes by.
Andre Ayew who made his debut for the Black Stars back in 2007 in an international friendly against Senegal has represented Ghana at the FIFA World Cup on three different occasions, (2010, 2014, 2022).
Andre Ayew was an integral member of the history Black Stars squad who led Ghana to the quarterfinals of the World Cup becoming the third African country to do so at that period.
After captaining the Black Satellites(U-20) team in Egypt to win Africa’s first ever youth World Cup trophy, many tipped Andre to emulate his father, Abedi Ayew Pele’s footsteps or even do better than his father.
After 120 international caps for Ghana, Andre has 24 goals under his belt, with his best years for the Stars being around 2010 to 2015.
The 2011 BBC African footballer of the year and the Captain of the Ghana National Team was sidelined and dropped from the National Team when former coach Otto Addo had his second stint with the Black Stars.
The shout for Andre Ayew to make the squad started when Carlos Queiroz took over after the dismissal of Otto Addo.
Prominent men like the Minister of Sports and Recreation triggered the conversation when he said, having Andre Ayew in your team is like having an extra man and would definitely take Andre to the World Cup if he was the Head Coach.
Again, Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to call Neymar Jnr back into the National team has also sparked a conversation among Ghanaians as to whether Ghana should go with Andre Ayew or not.
Currently, his younger brother Jordan Ayew captains the Black Stars and is poised to make history with Ghana at the World Cup.
Ghana plays against Mexico in an international friendly at Puebla on Saturday, May 23rd.
