Ghana is set to compete in the World Athletics Championship in Beijing come next year after booking their tickets in Botswana on Sunday, 3rd May 2026.
Record holding athletes Benjamin Azamati and Saminu Abdul Rasheed spearheaded the qualification along with Gadayi and Joseph Amoah.
Ghana will be competing in the 4X100 competition along with Britain, Jamaica, USA, Botswana and other greats nations.
After securing qualification, Saminu Abdul Rasheed took to X to vent out his frustration on how the Sports ministry always set them up to fail with preparations to major tournaments.
“The Ministry of Sports in Ghana needs to better, don’t set us for failure. If it was “black stars” flights tickets will be ready month prior to their game. 14hrs flight 16hrs lay over is not acceptable for professional athletes. We running with jet lag,no proper recovery.” Samiru tweeted.
Colleague athlete and teammate Benjamin Azamati also quoted the tweet and highlighted the need for the Sports ministry to do better and not expect them to win medals with poor preparations.
“To add to that, we’re competing against guys who’ve been here 1–3 weeks while we’ve been traveling since Wednesday and arriving a day before on a new continent.
I get it, I guess we’re magicians.
Do better, Sports Ministry!”
The Sports Ministry however has released a statement saying all travel arrangements for Ghana's WorldRelays team were based on what Ghana Athletics gave them, and that nothing was altered from their end for the trip to Botswana.
